Dancing in the Dark

3 Mar

You’re just dancing in the dark with your hands above your waist
You’re just a shadow in the distance, without a name, without a face
You let the music drift over you with your eyes closed the whole time
You’re all inside your head and your thoughts are running wild
No man alive could hold you for longer than a day
You’re a vagabond, a dreamer and your soul is wide awake
You’re in a different world entirely to the place beneath your feet
The lights flicker through your eyelids to the soft melodic beat
You mouth along to words that you didn’t know you knew
But you feel it through your body as your mind plays tricks on you.
A warmth washes over you and underneath your skin
It runs up your spine and you feel a silence within
It’s like you’ve woken from a dream and stepped into another
There’s a buzzing in your brain and you try to run for cover
But it’s the rhythm in your mind that is driving you tonight
You’re just a puppet in this play and you’re devoid of sight
You don’t need to know the ending
You don’t need to know how it began
Just let the story happen
And know it’s in safe hands.
